Learn Malayalam Language

Malayalam is a Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry. The origins of the language can be traced back to the 10th century AD, with the earliest written records of the language appearing in the 12th century. It is believed that the language evolved from a mixture of Tamil and Sanskrit, with influences from Prakrit and Pali languages as well.

The earliest known Malayalam literature is Ramacharitam, a collection of poems written in the 13th century. During the 14th and 15th centuries, the language continued to develop and mature through the works of poets such as Chandrotsava, Ramanan and Cherusseri. By the 16th century, Malayalam had become a fully developed language and had a significant body of literature.

In the 19th century, the language underwent a process of standardization and modernization, with the publication of the first Malayalam dictionary, “Vocabolario Malabarico” and the first Malayalam newspaper “Rajya Samacharam” in 1847. In the 20th century, the language continued to evolve with the introduction of new words and expressions to keep up with the changing times.

Today, Malayalam is spoken by over 38 million people worldwide and is the official language of Kerala. It has a rich literary heritage and continues to be an important language in the fields of literature, media, education, and government.
